15/06/2011 - minecraft vs terraria? pt.2

for tools there's a number of tiers in both games, 7 for terraria and 5 for minecraft (i think), but that's not important. what's really the different is that tools in terraria doesnt break, so it means as soon as you find a pickaxe for the next tier, all the ones below becomes obsolete. but in minecraft, better pickaxes are for tougher ores/minerals.

now im not saying either of the schemes are better, but wat i see is, while in minecraft, even with all diamond gear, u'll still hav the incentive to go mine, cuz they'll eventually break, and need renewing. but in terraria, i find myself losing the interest of mining for ores, simply cuz i dont need them anymore. yes constantly braking tools is annoying, but in the long run i think the minecraft schemes seems more practical, keeps it a constant goal for the game.

crafting is another thing important in both games. crafting is needed to pretty much survive in both games. now in minecraft everything (literally) needs to be crafted. in terraria, you can find some of the items. infact, some items is exclusively found in chests in dungeons/caverns. furthermore, the best gear in terraria needs a hellforge, which can only be obtained in the dubbed. endgame area (it's just the deepest part of the world with annoying monsters. which means your workshop needs upgrading. in minecraft it's just furnace+workbench=done, forever.
